What nobody is telling GLP-1 patients.
The weight is coming off. That's the good news. But there's a conversation that isn't happening enough: if you're losing weight without building muscle and exercise habits, you're losing both fat and the lean mass your body needs. Research shows that up to 40% of weight lost on GLP-1 medications can be lean muscle if exercise isn't part of the equation.
That matters because muscle is what keeps your metabolism running, keeps you functional as you age, and is one of the hardest things to rebuild once you've lost it. It also matters because if and when you come off the medication, the habits you've built (or haven't) are what determine whether the weight stays off.
I've been coaching people through medically-assisted weight loss for over 12 years. First with bariatric surgery patients, and now with GLP-1 patients too. The tools are different, but the core challenge is identical: losing the weight is step one. Building the life that keeps it off is the rest of the journey.
